Introduction
SEAGULL FTP is a fully featured, Windows-based LAN/WAN-to-FTP host connectivity product. SEAGULL FTP is easy to install and can reside on any Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Windows NT, or Windows 2000 system. Designed with administrators in mind for fast, simple, automated distribution to end users, SEAGULL FTP can easily be pre-configured and installed as a standard desktop application or distributed from a web server, file server, terminal server, via Email or via traditional magnetic media.
Scope
The purpose of this QuickStart Guide is to provide the SEAGULL FTP Administrator or end user a set of step-by-step instructions for performing a basic installation of SEAGULL FTP.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum requirements to run SEAGULL FTP:
- Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Windows NT 4 SP3, or Windows 2000
- 100 MHz 486 or Faster Processor
- 8 Megabytes of Memory
- 2 Megabytes of Disk Space
- VGA Display
How to Install SEAGULL FTP - Quick Install
Installing SEAGULL FTP is quick and easy. When you downloaded SEAGULL FTP, you downloaded the entire program as a self extracting executable file called unrbzftp.exe.
- Browse to where you saved the above file and double click on the file to start the installation process.
- A WinZip Self-Extractor dialog will be displayed. Click the Setup button to extract the zip file.
- You will be presented with the SEAGULL FTP Setup dialog. Make sure the Install SEAGULL FTP radio button is selected and click the Next button.
- You will be presented with the SEAGULL FTP Licensing dialog. Choose the "Yes, I agree" radio button and click the Next button.
- You will be presented with the Installation and Working Directories dialog. Change the Installation and Working Directories as needed and click the Next button. We recommend keeping the default values.
NOTE If you want your SEAGULL FTP configuration files to be saved in your "My Documents" folder, check the "Always Use the user's Personal Folder as the Working Directory" checkbox. If you want your SEAGULL FTP configuration files to be saved in the "All User's Common Folder", check the "Always Use the All User's Common Folder as the Working Directory" checkbox. Otherwise leave them unchecked.
- You will be presented with the Program Group, Program Icons, Desktop Shortcuts dialog. Make any desired changes and click the Next button. We recommend keeping the default values.
- You will be presented with the Launch Selected Items dialog. Check or un-check any desired items and click the Finish button. We recommend keeping the default values.
- The SEAGULL FTP files will now be installed. When this process is completed, you will receive a message that the SEAGULL FTP installation was completed successfully.

- Click the OK button.
- At this point, several things will happen:
- The Program Group window will launch in the background.
- The SEAGULL FTP Help file will be launched.
- A Windows dialog will launch in the foreground prompting you to create a SEAGULL FTP profile.
- Enter a file name in the File Name edit box and click the Open button. A message letting you know that the file does not exist, will be displayed Click the Yes button.
- The SEAGULL FTP Registration dialog will now be displayed. Locate the email that was automatically sent to you from the Seagull Software web site. Copy & Paste the Registration Key into the Registration Key box over the word "Unregistered". Click the Register button. When the button turns gray, the registration process is complete. Click the Continue button.
- SEAGULL FTP will launch prompting you to define a new connection. Enter the Connection Name, Host Address and TCP Port. Also enter a Username and Password. Click the OK button. Click the OK button again to close the Session Configuration dialog.
- You should now be able to connect to your FTP Host system by selecting Session:Connect from the SEAGULL FTP MenuBar.
- You can now close the Program Group window that was opened during the installation.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed and configured you first SEAGULL FTP session.
How to Start SEAGULL FTP
After the installation is complete, SEAGULL FTP can be executed by double-clicking the SEAGULL FTP Desktop Icon.
- Upon program execution, you will immediately be presented with a standard Windows file dialog as shown:

- With your mouse choose an existing file name from the list...
Or
- Enter a new file name in the File Name box and click the Open button. You will be prompted with a message that the file does not exist. Click the OK button.
- The SEAGULL FTP application will now launch.
Other Ways to Launch SEAGULL FTP
SEAGULL FTP can also be started by clicking the Windows "Start" button, then clicking "Programs", then "SEAGULL FTP" then SEAGULL FTP again.
Another way of running the program is by selecting Start:Run from the Windows Taskbar and browsing to the SEAGULL FTP installation directory and double clicking on the BZFTP.EXE file.

Customizing SEAGULL FTP
SEAGULL FTP can be used right “out of the box” or if you choose, it can be customized by an Administrator to look and act exactly the way you desire, then distributed and installed.
SEAGULL FTP can be completely pre-configured so that end users can install and start using SEAGULL FTP immediately.
