Introduction

SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro is a fully featured, Windows-based, secure LAN/WAN-to-FTP host connectivity product. SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro is easy to install and can reside on any Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Windows NT, or Windows 2000 system where users require secure (using SSL and TLS encryption) and non-secure access to FTP hosts.  Designed with administrators in mind for fast, simple, automated distribution to End Users, SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro can easily be pre-configured and installed as a standard desktop application or distributed from a web server, file server, terminal server, via Email or via traditional magnetic media.

Scope

The purpose of this QuickStart Guide is to provide the SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro Administrator or end user a set of step-by-step instructions for performing a basic installation of SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro.

 

Minimum Requirements

Minimum requirements to run SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro:

  • Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Windows NT 4 SP3, or Windows 2000
  • 100 MHz 486 or Faster Processor
  • 8 Megabytes of Memory
  • 2 Megabytes of Disk Space
  • VGA Display

 

How to Install SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro - Quick Install

Installing SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro is quick and easy. When you purchased SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro online, you downloaded the entire program as a self-extracting executable file.

  1. Browse to where you saved the downloaded SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro file.
     
  2. Double click on the file to start the installation process and follow the prompts.

  1. Change the Destination Drive and Directory as needed, or take the default (recommended).
     
  2. Respond to the questions in the Options Box or take the default (recommended), and click the Install button.
     
  3. Respond to the Software License Agreement screen and click the Finish button.
  4. The SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro files will be installed and you will receive a message that the SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro installation was completed successfully.

  1. Click the OK button. You will immediately receive the following message:

  1. Locate your SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro Installation Key that you received in the email that was automatically sent to you by the SEAGULL Server when you purchased this product online. You will need it in the next step. Click the Yes button to start the SEAGULL Registration Wizard.
     
  2. The SEAGULL Registration Wizard will start. For help with the SEAGULL Registration Wizard, click here.

 

How to Start SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro

  1. Double click on the SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro desktop icon or start it as you would any other Windows program by going to the Windows Task Bar and selecting “Start:Programs:SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro:SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro”.
     
  2. The first time you start SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro, the Define New Connection dialog will display.
     
  3. Enter a Connection Name, Host IP Address (or DNS Name), TCP Port (if not 21), Username and Password.

  1. Click the OK button two times.
     
  2. Click the Connect icon on the SEAGULL FTP ToolBar.
  3. Congratulations! You should now be connected to your FTP host.

Customizing SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro

SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro can be used right “out of the box” or if you choose, it can be customized by an Administrator to look and act exactly the way you desire, then distributed and installed.

SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro can be completely pre-configured so that end users can install and start using SEAGULL Secure FTP Pro immediately.
