Correcting File Permission problems on NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 Systems
From time to time you may run into a problem where Prospects and Customers have installed the BlueZone ASP Web Manager on either Windows2000 Professional with IIS or Windows XP with IIS, and have experienced problems in getting the Web Manager to work properly.
The Symptom is as follows:
The installation of Web Manager goes smoothly, however when trying to access the Web Manager for the first time, you an error similar to this:
Error Type: Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A0046) Permission denied /swm/system/functions.asp, line 398
Solution:
Browse with Explorer (not Internet Services Manager) to the folder where you just installed the BlueZone Web Manager. Highlight it, right click and go to properties. Go to the Security Tab. What you see next will depend on how much the owner of this system has customized the security settings. Look for an account called "Everyone". If there is no "Everyone" then look for an account called "User". Highlight it and look in the permissions box. You should see six check boxes. Remote users must have the ability to "write" to files on the web server. Check the "write" box and uncheck the "Allow inheritable from parent to propagate to this object" box. Click Apply. You will get a message box. Click Remove then Apply. The Web Manager should work properly now.
Alternate Solution:
If there is no "User" account or if the Customer does not want to give write permission to all "Users", you can add the Internet User account to this folder and give this account "write" permission. Be sure to propagate the permissions to the "children" (folders below this level).
